Description for Heritage Category: This iconic historic structure can be seen for miles around Collingwood and stands testament to an extraordinary feat of engineering and to the workers who built it and who worked in it over 64 years. It is listed on the Municipal Register and is considered the most important industrial site in the town’s Heritage District. Built in 1929, this third set of grain terminals replaced two former wooden silos. From the current terminals, 30,000 bushels of grain per hour were shipped out by ship and rail across the Great Lakes. It ceased operation in 1993 and is currently awaiting its future. It is still a powerful symbol for those who live here.

Description for Heritage Category: The Oro African Methodist Episcopal Church, in Oro-Medonte, built between 1846 and 1849 is one of, if not, the oldest African log church still standing in North American and is a National Historic site. This Church stands as a testament to both the Black Settlers who carefully crafted and cared for it for nearly 75 years and passionate community volunteers who have worked diligently to preserve it since its abandonment in the 1920s.

Honorable Mention Heritage Properties and Landscapes

Description for Heritage Category: This two-storey boathouse built in 1919 by the great humourist and novelist, Stephen Leacock, on Lake Couchiching, near Orillia, sits on the site of his summer home which was built in 1928 and designed by the Toronto architects Wright and Moxon. Called Old Brewery Bay, Leacock spent a great deal of time here, especially in his later years. He loved to walk, boat and fish on the land and lake that were both very special to him and which inspired many of the stories and colourful characters in his internationally beloved novels. He had a lifetime love affair with this area and with Orillia, which he immortalized in the world-renowned Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town.
