2024 BMFA Juried Photo Show

Calling all Ontario Photographers

Welcome to the 2024 BMFA Juried Photo Show,  we are excited this year to entertain submissions in 2 photography categories.  Our brand new category called Heritage Properties and Landscapes as well as our Open category that has been part of the show for over 30 years.  

Submissions are open beween  May 1, 2024 and July 31, 2024.  A maximum of 3 entries are permitted for the show across both the Heritage and Open categories.  Adults and Students living in Ontario can submit entries to the show.  The cost per entry is $ 20.00,  if you are a BMFA Member please use promo code : MEMBER and your entry price will be discounted to $ 15.00 per submission.  Students please use promo code : STUDENT, and your entry fees will be discounted to $ 0.00 (Free).

All entries will be juried and judges notes will be available for viewing once the jury process is complete and entrants informed of the results. 

A subset of photos will be accepted into a Gallery Show that will be held at 65 Simcoe St. as well as an Online show.

Show Timeline

  • May 1 - July 31 - Online digital entries will be accepted
  • August 2 - 8 - Judging by our Jurors
  • August 10 - All photographers will be advised whether their images are accepted into the show or not
  • Aug 11 - Sept 7 - Photographers accepted to the show prepare their photos for hanging
  • September 7, 8 - Intake of framed entries - times to be announced later
  • September 10 - Juror Comments available to photographers
  • September 11 - Show Opens
  • September 22 - Reception and Critique 1 - 3pm  at 65 Simcoe St.
  • September 11 - October 27 - Online and Gallery Show

Heritage Properties and Landscapes Category Detail

Under this category, photographers may submit photographs of structures or natural places which helps to show the history and culture of the diverse Georgian Triangle (Bruce, Grey, Simcoe). Structures could include houses and other dwellings, factories, barns, schools, public buildings, churches, boathouses, shed, etc.  Landscapes could include parks, cemeteries, waterways, vistas, acient hunting grounds, and areas of spiritual or religious significance.

Both exterior and interior photos can be submitted.  Photographs of specific features of a heritage property will be accepted - such as a stained glass window, a door, a school bell or a church organ as long as the photographer can connect it to the property's history.

Properties must have been built before the mid 1970's, Buildings erected on a property of historic significance - where something important or memorable happened - but where the original structure no longer exists - may be submitted as long as the description explains such significance to the community.  No photos of replica heritage properties will be accepted.

Landscapes should also be connected to the Georgian Triangles multi-faceted history and can show structures, or remnants of buildings or other built heritage. Landscapes can also be connected to spiritual or religious significance; to places related to legends, lore and celebratory activities; or to environments of a sacred nature.  Photographs of historic trees, gardens, parks, historical trails or other natural heritage landscapes can be submitted

Open Category Details

Photogaphs of any subject may be submitted.  Submissions must adhere in apprearance and in fact to the norms of civil discourse.  In other words, all submissions must be suitable for a global public audience.

Photograph Guidelines

All photographs entered must be created by a camera, whether film, digital, cell phone or tablet.  No artificially generated (AI) images are allowed, and no use of artifically (AI) fill is allowed in post production.  Any use of these tools will automatically disqualify the entry from the competition.  Please see the full guidelines outlined in our Terms and Conditions (link to terms and conditions at the bottom of the page).

Photographers entering the show under the Heritage Properties and Landscapes category must provide a brief description (maximum 50 words) of how their photograph/s relate to the history of the Georgian Triangle.
